Intrinsic Safety (IS) is a protection technique for safe operation of electrical equipment in hazardous areas by limiting the energy, electrical and thermal, available for ignition. It refers to equipment and wiring that are designed to operate safely in hazardous environments where flammable gases, vapors, or dusts are present. The idea behind intrinsic safety is preventing ignition by ensuring that the electrical energy in a circuit is kept below the level that could cause a spark or excessive heat. To prevent explosion, you need intrinsically safe equipment in hazardous areas.
BARTEC Middle East proudly marked 50 years of global innovation and leadership in explosion protection and electrical safety at the Regional Partner Summit 2025, held in the iconic Palm Jumeirah, Dubai.
Industries worldwide continuously strive to understand and prevent dust explosions, recognizing the critical role of safety and compliance. A proactive approach is essential, as it safeguards lives, assets, and the environment. By staying informed, implementing best practices, and promoting a strong safety culture, organizations can significantly minimize explosion risks and create safer workplaces. In this blog you will learn why a dust explosion is hazardous, what are the requirements for a dust explosion, how to prevent dust explosions in hazardous areas, which industries are most affected with the possibility of dust explosions and lastly, what are the equipment sub-groups for combustible dusts and the ignition temperatures from dusts.
The annual China Sales Meeting for the BARTEC APAC Sales Region took place in Pinghu, China, where BARTEC's new factory, located in the Pinghu Economic and Technological Development Zone, was officially inaugurated earlier this year. The meeting provided all sales colleagues with the opportunity to tour the new facility and engage in discussions on how to further optimize production efficiency to meet the growing regional demand for BARTEC solutions.
Standard smartphones and mobile devices can generate heat, sparks, or static discharges, which may ignite flammable gases, dust, or vapors in hazardous environments. They are not intrinsically safe and they lack specialized technical features that are non-negotiable for safety in potentially hazardous areas. Most importantly, they have no hazardous area certification and, therefore, are unable to comply with safety standards like ATEX, IECEx, NEC 500, or CEC 505, which is a requirement for the use of electrical equipment in hazardous areas.
